TARGET AUDIENCE: Healthcare professionals, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and professional peers who treat perinatal patients with substance use disorders.
This course is accompanied by the Perinatal Healthcare and Social Service Provider Toolkit from the Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction Division of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
This course provides healthcare professionals with strategies for caring for pregnant and postpartum patients affected by substance use, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and effective treatment strategies. Participants will explore the effects of SUD on pregnancy, including its impact on maternal and fetal health, and discuss cases to inform treatment approaches for initiating and titrating methadone and buprenorphine in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Additionally, the course covers pain management strategies and explores care coordination to ensure high-quality care across healthcare settings. The course features a panel discussion including individuals with lived experience of pregnancy and methadone treatment in clinical settings, offering valuable insight into patient-centered care.
